We know that businesses operating beyond the reach of an urban infrastructure often struggle to acquire a fast and reliable internet connection. When networks falter, productivity suffers. When security systems are fragmented or outdated, unresolved risk gradually increases until it is too late.
This was the position one of our rural-based business customers found themselves in as it continued to grow.
“We are a business based in a rural area that was not connected to fibre. Our connectivity in the office was very intermittent, relying on a point-to-point system. As our business and office team grew, we simply couldn’t manage with our current set-up.”
What had once been sufficient became a daily frustration. Intermittent connectivity slowed collaboration, undermined confidence in digital systems, and introduced uncertainty into routine operations. At the same time, the business recognised a second growing vulnerability.

Rather than addressing these problems in isolation we offered them a broader view: Connectivity, security, access control and future expansion were interconnected and required a complete system design rather than a series of individual installations.
Our aims: build an infrastructure that could be trusted, scaled and understood by the people relying on it every day.
A FTTP (fibre to the premise) leased line managed by an Ubiquiti Unifi Gateway was introduced to replace the existing point-to-point connection, providing consistent high-speed internet with enterprise-grade reliability.
“Since installation, the business has achieved 1Gbps internet speeds, with 100% system reliability. The network is protected by an Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and has already proven its resilience during a recent power outage in the area, remaining operational throughout.”
The security of the estate was transformed with 30 UniFi AI enhanced CCTV cameras, all managed through Unifi Protect. Footage is securely stored for one month on a dedicated storage device, providing both oversight and accountability without reliance on third-party cloud subscriptions.
Access to the site is now controlled using ANPR-enabled cameras. This system identifies individuals and vehicles.
Staff and trusted suppliers benefit from seamless access, while the system automatically flags unregistered vehicles and individuals entering the site outside of authorised hours. Every movement is logged, analysed and available for review.
“Within the first month of installing the latest kit, we stopped a break-in. An instant Push notification alerted us of trespass, we informed the police and triggered the UniFi Protect alarm system across the site within three minutes of the attempted burglary.”
This was not a hypothetical improvement, but a tangible outcome. A security incident that could have resulted in major loss and disruption was identified and contained in real time.
“We now have full visibility of the estate from anywhere in the world via the UniFi Protect app. Whether monitoring live feeds or reviewing recorded footage, access is immediate and secure. We feel secure knowing we can access the site at any time.”
Crucially, the infrastructure has been designed with longevity in mind.
“The best part for us is that the wiring is future-proofed, so we can upgrade when needed. With the rapid improvements across the UniFi Protect range, we are looking forward to continual improvements.”
